"Hello, Friend! What is thy name?"
"My name is Winter. I quietly came
and blew my dear sister away again."
"Again? May I know-
how long have you blown your sister so?"
" I have blown her every year
for as long as the sky is high and the sea is deep.
But now I think I shall go to sleep."
"Sleep well, dear sister!" says beautiful Spring.
"For flowers do bloom and birds do sing,
and now your snow melts and the sun doth shine,
and I shall break your spell and cast mine."
"May I join thee, dear sister?" beams Summer all aglow.
"I shall make the sun much hotter!"
Spring is frightened "Mercy no!"
But Summer sweeps Spring away
and makes the sun scorch and brightens it's rays.
"Nay, darling sister, this is too much."
Autumn cools the earth with her delicate touch,
and paints all the leaves and tells geese to fly south,
and puts acorns in squirrels' hungry little mouth.
"Wake up silver Winter." softly she peeps.
"The bears and the plants are all fast asleep,
and waiting your icy finger's touch,
so they may wait for Spring and rest much."
Winter awakens and blows Autumn away
and freezes the earth and cools the sun's rays.
"Hello, dear friend, What is thy name?"
"My name is Winter, I quietly came
and blew my dear sister away
... again."
