The Great Optometrist

Life was just a blur,
As if I were wearing dirty glasses.
And my heart was like the ocean
when a violent storm passes.
I searched for truth in and out
as I'd never done before.
Then when I was least expecting it,
Truth knocked upon my door.

I didn't recognize the Stranger
through those good-for-nothing lenses,
but He said He would save my life
for His truth saves and cleanses.

He said I had the choice
to shut the door or let Him in,
And if I let Him lodge for good
He'd cleanse my heart from sin.

I was just about to scorn Him
and throw at Him a stone,
when, reaching out, He removed my glasses,
and replaced them with His own.

And it was then I finally saw,
and was gripped with great conviction.
I threw myself at Jesus' feet
in complete and full submission.

I realized what a sinner I was,
that without Him I am lost.
And that Jesus paid my debt of sin
when He died upon the cross.

I must clean my glasses daily
as I read His Holy Word.
And I will sing His praise forever
like a joyful little bird.

The day He saved my life from sin
is a very special date.
Because by opening up my heart's door
I unlocked Heaven's gates.
